What We're Doing Here

Delta Sigma takes pride in our philanthropy and service efforts.  Locally, we take part in various service activities each semester.  This includes Highway Clean-Up, Adopt-A-Soldier, Truman State's Big Event, Special Olympics, the Safehouse Baby Shower, as well as many others!

We also raise over $2500 each spring semester for our national philanthropy.  We raise this money through events we sponsor, such as Big Man on Campus (a male beauty pageant), a chapter sponsored golf tournament, Swing for Sound Beginnings, and a silent auction during our annual Parents' Weekend Banquet.

If you are interested in helping us to achieve our philanthropic and service goals, please contact our philanthropy chair, Tina Pokorney at tlp729@truman.edu.

What We're Doing Everywhere

Delta Zeta's national philanthropy benefits individuals with speech and hearing impairments.  In 2004, we partnered with the National Center for Hearing Assessment and Management at Utah State University to create a new philanthropy program, Sound Beginnings.  Sound Beginnings raises awareness of the need for newborn hearing screening and the importance of starting early invervention when a hearing loss is identified before six months of age.

We have also recently joined efforts with The Painted Turtle in 2006.  The Painted Turtle is a camp that provides a life changing experience to children with chronic or life threatening illnesses.  The Painted Turtle supports children's medical needs, inspires them to reach beyond their illnesses, and provides care, education, and respite for their families.  The Painted Turtle has no billing department.  All campers and families attend free of charge.  The Painted Turtle camps is associated with Paul Newman's Hole in the Wall camps.
